Trail Blazers' Greg Oden, NBA's Top Pick, to Have Knee Surgery
Portland Trail Blazers rookie center Greg Oden , the first pick in this year's National Basketball Association draft, will have arthroscopic surgery on his right knee this week.
The 7-foot Greg Oden has been experiencing pain in the knee and had an MRI exam last week that showed possible cartilage damage, the team said in a statement. A timetable for his return will be set following the Sept. 13 surgery.
The Blazers are scheduled to open the NBA's regular season on Oct. 30 against the defending champion San Antonio Spurs.
Greg Oden , 19, missed the start of his freshman season at Ohio State University while recovering from surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right wrist.
He returned to average 15.7 points, 9.6 rebounds and 3.3 blocked shots, helping the Buckeyes advance to college basketball's championship game for the first time in 45 years. Greg Oden in July signed a two-year contract with the Blazers worth $8.1 million.
